8-day intensive
Age Requirement: 3 years old minimum by the first day of class
Session Length: 8 classes over a 2 week period (weekdays only; no Sat or Sun)
Daily Class Length: 15 minutes/day for private; 30 minutes/day for group
My 8-day intensive generally meets weekdays from Monday to Friday in the first week and from Monday to Thursday in the second week; your child's lesson is at the same time each day. Each lesson in the PRIVATE intensive is 15 minutes long with 1 swimmer in the water with me. Each lesson in the GROUP intensive is 30 minutes long with 3 swimmers together in the water with me, creating a social environment that can add to the experience and enable kids to watch each other and learn from their peers. If you are not enrolling with friends as a group of three then I will pair your child with others to form a class of three. See the Enroll page for class timing, availability and enrollment.
Although results vary by child since each child learns and progresses differently, the goals we are reaching for by the end of the 8-day intensive include swimming from the side or steps to me or a parent, getting back to the edge of the pool after entering the water, and swimming to the steps or walking with their hands along the side of the pool to the steps so they can get themselves out of the water when needed. If your child is already doing these things or does them before the end of the intensive then I can work with them on building new skills. What I do with each child depends on his or her level of development. Each child is different and may progress faster or slower than another child, so always compare your child’s progress with where they started, not with that of another child.
As kids are in the water with me parents watch the live feed video from a separate nearby viewing area; this allows the kids to keep their focus on the water where it needs to be. On the last day of class I invite parents into the water as well so they can learn how to reinforce their child’s instruction beyond their session with me. One adult caretaker always needs to remain on site while their child is in class; that adult can be a parent, relative, nanny or other caretaker.
All classes happen at my heated pool in Sherman Oaks.
