In Los Angeles swim lessons for children are essential. Learning to swim is a necessary skill that can save your child’s life. I combine two time-tested methods for helping kids learn to swim independently and for developing an appreciation of and respect for the water.
The first method I use is the “No Nonsense Method” or "Bradbury Method" that legendary swim instructor Tom Bradbury learned in Hawaii in the 1950s. Tom brought this highly effective method to Southern California and trained Bill Marsh (Swim To Bill) who trained Ethan Phillips (Swim To Ethan) who trained me. This method, based largely on consistency and psychology, has been perfected over the years and used to teach thousands of kids to swim. I am proud to carry on this legacy and grateful for Ethan teaching me the method that he has used and further developed to effectively help kids learn to be safer in the water.
The second method I use comes from the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program. I have been certified as a Water Safety Instructor, the Red Cross’s gold standard that provides their most comprehensive training for swim instructors. I use elements of my Red Cross training to refine and expand children’s swimming skills and teach them how to be safer in and around the water.
My 8-day intensive (private or group) for ages 3 and up is designed to help children learn to move themselves through the water without the assistance of floatation devices or being held by a parent, increasing their safety and enjoyment in the water. The intensive can save you time and money moving your child toward independence in the water compared to ongoing weekly lessons that can take much longer.
My 8-day Parent & Child Pre-intensive (private or group) for ages 2 to 3 is designed to help increase children's comfort and confidence in the water and work on skills that can help prepare them to take my 8-day intensive after they turn 3 years old.
All classes happen at my heated pool in Sherman Oaks; I do not currently teach at any other pools or private residences.
